ENGLISH ABSTRACT (book in Spanish)
This text organised what we knew at the beginning of the 90s about online services within a business context. Do you remember something called Videotex? Do you have any idea what Minitel was? These pretty rudimentary services started the online revolution that climaxed with the internet. But nobody cares much any more about the difference between bits and bytes or about the telecom wonders that move data around the world. It wasn’t a technical book on those issues; but a clear guide on the terminology and the very basics of telecommunications and online services for businesses. It was something I had to write to keep this knowledge clear in my mind.
RESUMEN EN CASTELLANO (libro en castellano)
Este texto presenta lo que sabíamos al principio de los años 90 sobre los servicios en línea en el contexto de los negocios . ¿Te acuerdas de algo que se llamaba Videotex? ¿Alguna idea de lo que era el Minitel? Estos servicios bastante rudimentarios iniciaron la revolución online que después culminó con Internet. Hoy en día, nadie se preocupa por la diferencia entre bits y bytes, y acerca de las maravillas tecnológicas que mueven los datos por todo el mundo. Aunque no es un libro técnico sobre estas cuestiones, el texto era una guía clara sobre la terminología y los conceptos básicos en materia de telecomunicaciones y servicios en línea para empresas. Tuve que escribirlo para retener de forma clara este conocimiento en mi mente.
