The Controller/Curator duality in business

Companies must MANAGE the duality exploit / explore : exploit the business today , explore the business tomorrow (March and Simon 1958). This has been known for a while.
What is new is how relevant this issue is becoming. It is urgent that companies operate in a dual way : to make the most out of existing markets by correctly running operations ( first operating system ; role of the CONTROLLER), and explore the opportunities that arise by constantly adapting the business model to new realities ( second operating system : role of the CURATOR of the business model ) .
Today , companies are dominated by the first operating system . But the balance between the first and second operating system should increase .
Whoever runs the company , must do so by becoming a dual controller / curator being, simultaneously driving the two operating systems .
Difficult, of course, but so was handling the extreme wave-particle duality in quantum physics, and here we are , living thanks to their achievements.

Las empresas deben funcionar desde la dualidad explotar/explorar: explotar el negocio de hoy, explorar el negocio de mañana (James March, 1958). Esto es sabido desde hace tiempo.
Lo que es nuevo es la relevancia que esta dualidad está tomando. Es urgente que las empresas funcionen de manera dual: que se saque partido de los mercados existentes y que se controle bien el funcionamiento de las operaciones (primer sistema operativo; rol de CONTROLLER), y que se exploren constantemente las oportunidades que surgen de adaptar el modelo de negocio a nuevas realidades (segundo sistema operativo: rol del CURATOR del business model).
Hoy, las empresas están dominadas por el primer sistema operativo. Pero el equilibrio entre el primero y el segundo sistema operativo debe ir aumentando.
Quien dirige la empresa, debe hacerlo desde la dualidad controller/curator, manejando simultaneamente los dos sistemas operativos.
Difícil, pero también lo fue manejar la extrema dualidad onda-partícula en física cuantica, y aquí estamos, viviendo de sus logros.
